If there are 20 people at the party and each person shakes hands with everyone there, how many handshakes are there? (Don’t shake your own hand.)

  1. ANSWER: 190 Handshakes
    Write an algebraic equation. Let x equal the number of handshakes.
    x = (20*19)/2 = 190
    Divide by 2 because the guests did not shake their own hands.
